Electrical Distribution Design for Campus and Institutional Projects
Distribution design and engineering for campus build projects, large institutional sites, and multi-building developments. We design what we build and we build what we design.
Distribution design engineering is the work of laying out how power moves from the utility service into and across a building or campus, and the right distribution design is the difference between a clean install and a job that fights every trade for the next eighteen months. ESE carries this scope in house through our estimating, BIM, and project-management teams, so the engineering and the field crew share the same plan from day one.
We engage on distribution design at three levels. First, as the engineer on our own projects, where the design discipline is what lets the field crew move fast. Second, as a consulting design engineer to GCs, developers, and architects who need a second set of eyes on a stalled design or a campus-scale project. Third, as the design partner on campus build projects: schools, hospitals, mixed-use developments, and multi-building institutional sites where the utility service, the inter-building distribution, and the in-building feeders all have to coordinate.
If you are scoping a new campus build, scaling an existing site, or evaluating an existing distribution design before committing to a contractor, reach out. We will tell you what we would build and what we would change.

Who this is for.
- Developers planning a campus or multi-building site
- Architects of record on institutional projects
- GCs needing a second-opinion distribution design review
- Owner reps managing a multi-phase campus rebuild
- Schools, hospitals, and institutional clients scaling their footprint
- Engineers needing an integrated electrical-utility design partner
What to share with our team.
Send what you have available. These details help us understand the site, define the scope, and identify the next step.
Service calls and maintenance cover New York and New Jersey. South Florida enquiries are for project work.
Share the site or campus plan, existing single-line diagrams, and available equipment and utility service information.
Provide current and proposed loads, future expansion plans, and any owner standards for the distribution system.
Identify equipment locations, routing limitations, and the buildings or operations affected by shutdowns.
Tell us the design stage, required deliverables, and the responsible design and utility contacts so engineering, construction, and review responsibilities are clear.
Four steps. No surprises.
Every distribution design engineering engagement runs the same way. We document the work, we document the cost, and we leave a clean record so you can pick up the file at any point and know what is happening.
- Step 01Discovery
Site, scope, and timeline. We review existing utility capacity, building program, and any existing electrical design. We come back with a feasibility note and a recommended approach.
01 - Step 02Design
One-line diagrams, distribution layout, switchgear and feeder selection, BIM model, and the utility-side coordination plan. We deliver in the format your project team needs.
02 - Step 03Review and iterate
Coordination with structural, mechanical, and life-safety designers. Clash detection. Iteration with the GC and the architect. We stay engaged through permit and submittal.
03 - Step 04Build, if we are the contractor
When we hold the install scope, the engineering and the field share the same plan from day one. When another contractor holds the install, we stay available for design-side questions through construction.

Asked and answered.
- 01
Can we hire you for distribution design only?
Yes. We take design-only engagements as a consulting design engineer. The deliverable is the engineering package and design-side support through permit. Another contractor can hold the install.
- 02
What size projects do you take on?
From a single multi-tenant building up to a multi-building campus. The team scales to the scope. Reach out and we will tell you whether your project is a fit for us alone or whether a design partner makes sense.
- 03
Do you do BIM modeling in house?
Yes. Our BIM team owns the model from concept through as-built. That is the integration that lets the field crew install what the engineer designed.
- 04
Do you work with our existing architect and engineer team?
Yes. Distribution design is most effective when it is integrated with the architectural and mechanical disciplines from concept. We coordinate cleanly with project teams that are already in place.
